Rls: Houston govt changes course on Otter Lake landfill

Please see attached release on the NSECC’s decision to permit the deactivation of the front-end processor and waste stabilization facility at the Otter Lake landfill. This has been a contentious issue for the surrounding community, something they overwhelmingly do not support.

In 2013, the Progressive Conservatives tabled a resolution in the House opposing the deactivation of these mechanisms and asking the Enviro minister at the time to instruct HRM to keep these processes in place. The resolution was unanimously supported by all three parties.

Now, the PC government seems to have done an about face.

The landfill is in Timberlea-Prospect, Iain’s riding, and he strongly opposes the removal of these treatment processes.
