{"id":1628,"date":"2023-10-05T16:16:31","date_gmt":"2023-10-05T20:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.otterlakecmc.ca\/?p=1628"},"modified":"2023-10-05T16:16:34","modified_gmt":"2023-10-05T20:16:34","slug":"cmcs-environmental-consultant-checks-out-odour-complaints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.otterlakecmc.ca\/?p=1628","title":{"rendered":"CMC\u2019s Environmental Consultant Checks Out Odour Complaints"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div>\n<div>In response to a series of recent odour complaints (and coincidentally one from this morning Oct.5, 2023) I visited this site and spoke with Steve Copp* and Andrew Sullivan** .<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>In recent days 6 vertical\u00a0 gas collection wells and 1 horizontal well have been installed in Cell 7A. Cell 7A\u00a0is the active cell. During excavation for the horizontal well yesterday &#8220;old&#8221; municipal waste was necessarily\u00a0 disturbed resulting in a release of gas. It was evident that this older, deeper section of the landfill was releasing the unpleasant odour and not the active tipping face.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The surface and sides of Cell 7A are being capped with clay with work expected to be completed today. It is presumed that the excessive rainfall this late summer and early fall has percolated to lower levels of Cell 7A hastening decomposition and gas production. It is hoped that the increased gas capture and clay cover will mitigate the release of landfill gas.
