The Community Monitoring Committee is pleased to announce that Reg Rankin, District 12 Councillor (Timberlea-Beechville-Clayton Park-Wedgewood), has accepted an offer for the position of Executive Director, beginning November 1. Councillor Rankin previously announced that he would not be seeking re-election in October, after 25 years on Halifax County and HRM Councils.
Rankin will succeed Ken Meech, who provided notice in May that he would be leaving the position on June 15th after 6 years.
Rankin’s acceptance will provide stability at a time of change for the CMC. In addition to the departure of Meech, long-time CMC Chair and former HRM Councillor Jack Mitchell has stepped down from the Committee, which he has been on since its inception in 1999. John Cascadden has replaced Mitchell as Chair effective June 27th. Additionally, with recent operational changes at Otter Lake and a new contract between HRM and the facility operator Mirror, the Community Monitoring Committee is implementing a new Strategic Plan that will help refine its role and operation for the next 5 years. Implementation of the Strategic Plan, already underway, will be a priority for the new Executive Director.
